Bureau Works Interface: My opinion as as translator

Bureau Works is a translation agency with an easy to use and intuitive platform that is in constant improvement. 

I have been using Bureau Works for my translation projects since 2019. Recently I started to use it as a client so I have a full understanding of how it works. I want to share my opinion about it, highlighting its perks so you understand why you should choose BW for your language needs.

Easy-to-use interface

Bureau Works has its own system, called BWX, that offers clients and translators the opportunity to manage, assign and check their translation projects within the same system with an ultra-light RAM and ROM.

Being a cloud-based system, you can even use a Chromebook to access, all you need is internet connection.

Once you login, you can access a wealth of options for your translation projects.

Perks of the Bureau Works system

I want to share with you the things I enjoy the most as a freelance translator with Bureau Works.

Automatized invoicing

You don’t have to worry about calculating the payment for each work, it is set automatically based on your rate once you finish each project.

Fast payments

Bureau Works offers payments via Payoneer and PayPal the first days of each month. They pay at only 30 days after invoicing, and the company covers the fee for PayPal payments.

Translators are always paid on time each time thanks to this system.

Automatic word-count

BWX automatically predicts the word count of each project, and shows it to you. It also divides the project in segments, so you can translate more easily.

The system also calculates your payment once you finish, based on the word count of each project.

MTPE options

You can opt to use machine translation to help you while translating your projects. It is automatic as well, and you can find the MT version of each segment in the text box at the left of the panels.

Rich glossaries

BWX has glossaries built by its translators for health, tech, marketing and many other subjects that automatically are at your disposal once you start a project. 

Things you should know before applying as a translator

First-come-first-served system

Projects in Bureau Works can be claimed by each user with a good standing and rate in the platform. Each translator can see the projects on their language pair and claim it, and the project isn’t blocked for other translators until the checklist is complete and the task is fully claimed. So, if you aren’t fast enough, some other translator could claim the task before you do. This is a common practice in the industry but the good part is that you can forget about exchanging emails, The BWX system makes the whole process automatic.

Occasional delays in the log-in

Sometimes the log-in process can take longer than a couple of seconds, because of the internet connection or internal issues with the host, but the IT department is very responsive and the issue is usually solved within minutes.

Besides, something I really enjoy is that BWX works with as little as 4.2 mbps, which is wonderful news if you like to travel, because you can open the platform to translate practically anywhere, no matter how slow your internet connection is.

Conclusion

Bureau Works is an excellent platform for translators looking for a way to work on the cloud, that can stand against other cloud-based platforms, is fully integrated and takes care of the invoicing process.
