2025 was more than a year of updates — it was a year of rethinking how translation works.

At Bureau Works, we challenged the norms, asked harder questions, and built technology with intention and humanity at its core. What we shipped in 2025 wasn’t just about automation or speed — it was about changing the way people interact with language and empowering teams to do more meaningful work.

Breaking the Machine

We started the year by asking a fundamental question:
Why has translation stayed the same for 40 years?
That question became our philosophy — Break the Machine. We challenged traditional thinking, segment-based translation workflows, and systems that prioritize throughput over meaning.

Throughout the year, that philosophy manifested in new capabilities, smarter automation, and tools designed to reflect how humans actually think and communicate.

What We Shipped

In 2025 we turned ambitious roadmaps into real product experiences. Highlights included:

  • Sous-Chef goes live – not just translating text, but understanding intent and audience context.
  • The Translation Portal – a unified space to translate, review, and download content with confidence signals built in.
  • Major improvements to integrations with enterprise systems like Contentful, Zendesk, and more.
  • Expanded connectivity with storage systems like Google Drive and Bitbucket.
  • Machine Translation included in all plans with no extra cost.
  • Structural improvements like split work units and target-based cost calculation to support complex workflows.
  • Growth milestones like launching multi-language support for bureauworks.com itself and earning external recognition from industry groups.

These aren’t small tweaks — they represent a new way of thinking about localization tech, one that balances machine power with real user intent.

A Year With Impact

2025 was also about community and insight. We shared:

  • Partner perspectives from across the globe.
  • Thought leadership on translation strategy and human-centered workflows.
  • Research into how AI reshapes human work.

Through workshops, product talks, and shared learnings, we built not just software — but conversation.

Human First, Always

What connects all of this isn’t technology — it’s people.

We shipped tools that eliminate busywork, reduce repetitive tasks, and let humans focus on meaningful decisions. Because translation isn’t just about moving text — it’s about connecting people, culture, and expression.

“We found the silent absurdities that pass for normal.” — that line from our recap says it best. It's not about perfection. It’s about intent. It’s about purposeful language work.

Looking Forward

As we move into 2026, we’re optimistic — not because everything is solved, but because direction matters. We’ll keep prioritizing tools that uphold human agency, support decision-making, and push the craft of translation forward in ways that are thoughtful and impactful.

Thank you for being part of 2025 — we couldn’t have broken the machine without you, and we can’t wait to keep building together.
